Special Topic: Introduction to GIS

I. Bibliography Assignment:

  • Review 5 GIS related journal articles and write a summary of each article; 1 article summary will be presented to the class.
  • Article summaries should include:
    • article citation
    • how you found the article
    • the purpose of the study
    • the data used in the study
    • how GIS was used in the study
    • your opinion of the article - was it a valid study?, did it need to use GIS?, etc.
  • Summary format:
    • each summary should be 1-2 pages in length, double-spaced
    • use standard font with font size 12
    • include your name and the article citation at the top of the page
  • Citation format example:
    • Cowen, D.J. 1998. GIS versus CAD versus DBMS: What are the differences? Photogrammetric Engineering and Remote Sensing, 54(1): 1551-1555.
